Place is the starting point for Leah’s paintings. Her interests lie in the day to day information we collect, recollect and re-collect from place to place. Some of this information remains or repeats. Some of it is lost only to re-emerge or to be lost indefinitely. Through the use of found images and collected descriptions, Leah is exploring the ground between how we associate and combine observation, thought and memory not only from what is present but also from that which is partial or absent.

Cinnamon Girls presents photographer Nicola Giles-Morreale and her
> body of work “Surface Tension: Memories in Water”.
>
> When you search for the profound you never find it. This is because
> it is usually right in front of you. I love to use the camera as a
> medium, for it acts as a bridge between what exists internally for me
> and how I interact with the world in front of, and behind me. The end
> product, the photographs, embody the tension between the surface of my
> world and the underworld of my emotions and memories.
>
> Last summer a family trip to P.E.I. coincided with media hype about
> the notion that water has “memory.” According to French scientist
> Jacques Benveniste water is capable of retaining a memory of particles
> once dissolved in it, even after being diluted so much that the chance
> of even one molecule remaining in the water being used is negligible.
>
> This theory inspired me to create this photographic body of work.
